For Shame

Hi all, Wander here. I waited to weigh in on the massacres happening in our country…Sandy hook, and a bit closer to home, the shooting at the Clackamas Town Center six miles from my home…out of respect for the dead, and the living.
Our country is way too reactionary! Shame on you! The bodies weren’t even cold yet and our country spun off into the argument. Everyone just waiting for the chance to spew their opinion about Guns, or Mental health, or NRA, or any number of reactionary responses.
As the Hindenburg crashed in a flaming inferno the man on the radio, Herbert “Herb” Morrison, wasn’t screaming about the political ramifications of the explosion, he was crying, and made one of the most famous quotes of all times, “Oh the humanity” because he had just witnessed 36 humans die in a flaming inferno.
January 28th 1986 my mom decided to let us stay home to watch the shuttle take off, the Challenger. As we sat there excitedly watching it go up and up and up we had no concept of what was to happen. 73 seconds after liftoff, thousands and thousands of feet above terra firma it exploded. My sister my mom and I lay on the chase lounge and balled. At school they had brought tv’s into the classes to let the students watch. Within moments our phone was ringing, to tell us there would be no school that day or the next, or the next. From what I remember our country shut down.
Not once in that week did I hear my mom talk about the fact that it was NASA’s fault…or those liberals, or government, or fault. What I did hear was how tragic it was; how the lives of those human beings were cut short. That response left an impression on me.
Flash forward twenty two years and twenty six humans were massacred in a school, twenty of them children gunned down before they had the chance to even live; twenty six precious lives cut down, oh the humanity! I cry as I write this, because I have two small children, I have friends, and I have family members that could have the very same thing happen to them. And because they, the dead, deserve my tears for they are of us.
Our country is too reactionary, I say this because the first I heard of this tragedy was an argument on Facebook about weather guns should be banned. The people arguing didn’t even know the names of the dead, or how many…but oh they knew it was their chance to share their opinion…for shame! Twenty six humans were slain and all they cared about was their opinion, for shame!
There are many factors that go into these slayings, Gun laws, lack of mental health funding, the media’s need to sensationalize everything, and our response as a nation. Rather than arguing about cause and effect first, then showing mourning second, we should pull together and show respect for the dead, and then with rational minds work together to ease the primers for tragedies like this.
Oh the humanity, twenty six were slain in PA, and two in OR, and I grieve.

Rest in peace

The Dreaded Political Post

I think there’s a moment in grieving when action and solutions become our focus. We want to honor the dead but also prevent the same tragedies from occurring again. Seeing twenty children and their teachers killed, I ask why. It’s a complicated answer. The federal assault weapons ban would have covered the gun used. A better mental health system would have been more effective in reaching out to the severely troubled killer. These are two problems. The how is fixing them.

Do we reinstate the federal assault weapons ban and cut back on extended magazines? It would not stop a determined individual but it would lessen their capacity to inflict harm. This tragedy made me see the value of this argument. Children cannot own guns to protect themselves from other guns. Short of giving them pistols, we have to ensure their safety. We do this by vigilance, security and laws. If you see a troubled individual, reach out and help them get the care they need. But, also keep an eye out. People do not always seek help - they may be afraid or simply do not care. Laws as well must be a factor; giving potentially unstable people access to ammunition and assault weapons with extended magazines needs curtailed by better background checks. Also, restrictions are important. People have a right to defend themselves, hunt and use guns for sport, but the power of the weapons legal today are far beyond that. We need common sense and responsible people. Guns are dangerous and perhaps should be more thoroughly licensed. I cannot drive a car without passing a test and continuing to submit to eye exams and photo IDs; why should I have access to another dangerous machine more easily? Liability insurance as well could play an important role. If you own a gun, damage inflicted will be paid for through your monthly premium.

I also fear what we might become defending the right to own assault weapons.  Do we make schools into fortresses with armed guards and metal detectors?  Is the right worth the lives of so many children and adults?  People can easily defend themselves with less powerful guns. And children may be spared the harsh realities they must grow into.

These are merely thoughts. I do not intend to use this horrible tragedy for political gain. I only want to never see it happen it again. Grieving for me is finding answers. Parents should never be told their children were murdered in a senseless act of violence we could have prevented. They should never be told at all, for that matter.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the all-new America

Disclaimer: there is use of curse words in this piece…it is my opinion that the use of expletives at times shows, or adds, a bit of an extra punch to the idea being  presented. This piece is intended for adult or mature audiences. If you don’t want your children reading this it is your responsibility to monitor what they are doing, not mine…thank you and enjoy.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the all-new America…the post twenty twelve election America! I have to say, and I am not sure if this holds true for you, I for one was amazed that the world was still operating the day after the election. I woke up and stretched, then realized what I was doing, and what it meant. America still stands. We still have water running, those of us lucky enough to not be in the path of a storm on steroids, and the rule of law is still enforced.
I wasn’t sure that that was a possibility after hearing how horrible it would be if president Obama won the election. You know, because…everyone knows that he is a Muslim plant that was born in Kenya sent to America to weaken our Christian values, ruin our moral bastion of conservatism, and rape my baby sister on national television!
For fuck’s sake people did you forget how to do actual research? Is our country so riddled with morons that any halfcocked claim can gain national air time without any fact checking at all?
Guess what, Obama won! Not only did he win, he flat out kicked Mitt Romney’s ass…straight up handed Mitt Romney, and Paul Ryan a “you got knocked the fuck out” cardJ!
So I guess that means that over half of our country didn’t fall for the bullshit that they were selling. Paul Ryan would have you believe that Rape is Rape (except when it isn’t forcible…because you know if they get pregnant they wanted it) and the Mittster would like you to believe that huge multinational corporations were people…”Look Gepetto, I’m a real boy” squealed Halliburton. What a fucking crock! This is how fucking deluded some of the people supporting the right wing party are; Karl Rove made a statement that claimed that Hurricane Sandy stopped Romney’s charge, and that the storm was an “act of god” (his words) and that if the storm hadn’t happened Romney would have won. I guess if that is true…that would mean…God sure as hell didn’t want Romney in office.
Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the new America! The one where we tell the media outlets that they need to tell the truth, to fact check, and stop manufacturing fiction to make a profit! An America where we teach our children to do actual research before they spread nasty shit over the internet. Where we verify what we hear our friends say before we tell it to our neighbors. We are responsible for where this country goes, We!
Get off your ass and start changing things!  If you don’t want jobs going overseas…stop fucking shopping at Wal-Mart! If you want your economy to start growing start spending your money in ways that don’t support companies that are top heavy. No CEO should make thousands of times what the average rank and file, that is not sustainable. If you don’t want the world to have a shitty opinion of America stop acting like they aren’t worth the dirt they rest on. If you want less enemies stop doing shitty things to other countries…and believe me we have been doing shitty things to other countries for the last seventy years…better yet do your own fucking research to prove me wrong! And when your Christian friends start saying that we need to bomb Iran, and to cut of assistance to the poor and infirm, and that anything done in the name of business is ok, tell them that those things go against every principal and virtue that Christ stood for…if they argue tell them to read the bible.
Wake up, our world is being destroyed by our actions, and it doesn’t have to be. But to actually change our country, our world, we need to make decisions that are not selfish, and  not only self-aligned.
And for those that would argue that the Liberal side has some or many of the same flaws that I credited the right wing with having…I would say yes, you are right…but, that doesn’t make your shit stink any less. My mom always asked me “if your friends jump off a cliff would you” and not being a rational person I would always give her a smartass response “if there was water underneath I would”. So I ask you…Is it ok for you to not change the things you do that poorly serve you or society because you think the other side does bad things?
While you ponder that think about this, over the last ten years we as a country have killed hundreds of thousands of people because of the deaths of forty five hundred people. Maybe think of it this way, how would you feel if a country the size of Russia attacked Iowa because of the things a few thousand people in Detroit did? Wouldn’t make sense to you would it, me either.

P.S. I cannot express how greatfull I am to live in a country where I can express my opinion without the fear of government reprisal.
Thank you for reading. Good night J

Late Night Rant

Today I volunteered in an after school program. I helped them draw, do homework and play games among other things. It didn’t occur to me until tonight how amazing the kids were; not for what they can do but what they don’t do. Let me explain. Every day the children go through their activities, interacting with one another. They do this without the slightest hint or prejudice. Maybe it’s because of their youth, still in elementary, or maybe the world hasn’t taught them to be cruel in the ways adults are. I’ve seen them tease each other but never for a thing the child hasn’t said or done. They don’t look at color and I’ve never heard them mention anything remotely close to income. These things don’t matter.

I fear for the Black girl I push on the swing and cringe I notice that she is or that I even called her the Black girl. I wish I didn’t and I hope no one ever thinks less of her for something she can’t help. I hope I live to see my children not take notice. Does she knows yet or does she see herself the same. I pray she does. And I hope unequal opportunities don’t affect her even as they do now for so many African Americans. I imagine the reminder and the burden of history; being constantly reminded and labeled.

Above all, I’m left with a lesson; that race is constructed and we shouldn’t see it any different. God made humans. There are good people and bad people, and skin color has never determined which was which

Unmanned Drones used against Americans

Wander 10/30/12 1:51 P.M.

"I think we're at the birth of this technology," said David Crump, a professor at the Houston University Law Center. "It's true that it's exploding; it's a very fast growing baby," he said, "But we wouldn't want to tell Alexander Graham Bell at the birth of the telephone" to stop development because of privacy concerns."

This was a direct quote from a man testifying in front of congress about the use of unmanned drones to monitor the united states...these drones can be equipped with cameras able to see into your home from heights or to see through your cloths; they can also be equipped with weaponry as has been used by the military to destroy targets in the middle east.

This is scary stuff! Imagine  if they had one of those in the days of the killings at Kent state. If you don't know what I am referring to, look it up; authorities opened fire on unarmed protesters. We must let our congressmen know that the use of armed unmanned drones, and also the un-unwarranted use of Surveillanc drones against the peoples of the United States of America is not acceptable!

here is a link to the article my info and quote came from Congress likes drones
and another The Seattle Times

Thank you Brian over at WeighstationOne for bringing this up in his latest post

Paul Ryan's Speech in Findlay Ohio

Hello, Ohio! Did I say Ohio? I meant moochers! That’s right. You college kids are leaches taking government money. I didn’t rely on student loans. I paid my college with social security death benefits like a real American. When I’m VP things are going to change around here. This country is going back to its roots. What does that mean? Well, we’re going to have horses and no electricity! Or I should I say I’ll have a horse. You’ll probably be pulling a cart or something because I’m taking your loans. I need it more than you. I’m a job creator. Every millionaire is. We send money to Chinese companies, you see, and you buy stuff and it brings new jobs. I can’t give details until the election is over. Romney likes to keep things hush hush. Okay, I’ll give a couple. Your next president is a huge fan of the game Risk. He plays it all the time. But to be honest, he’s a little tired of the board. He wants to branch out. That’s why we’re going to place one of those giant cannons on the real Iran. That means we’ve conquered it. The horses and bayonets are waiting in the barn too. It’s going to be a great time.

I’ve got to go for now. But remember, you’re moochers who deserve poverty for being socialist bums. So, don’t even think about asking for that Medicare you’re already paying for. Peace out, peasants!

Facebook on Blogger

I just heard Obama is violating religious freedom from someone calling America a Christian nation. Hmmm. I would think telling people who to worship is the biggest overreach of government authority.

Is This Meme Racist?

There was a lengthy discussion on Grammarly's page on Facebook over whether this image was racist against segments of the population.  Is it appropriate in regard to dialect?  Or inappropriate in regard to grammar?

I normally avoid the Fox News comment section like the plague but this was funny:

Vivian: Do you even know what a socialist is?

Reatke: Everyone knows that a socialist is.
